Yale-China Association Position

Deferred Start Law Fellowship Opportunity, 2009-2010
Since 1901, the Yale-China Association – a private, nonprofit organization – has contributed to the development of education in and about China and to furthering understanding and knowledge between Chinese and American people.

For the past nine years, Yale-China has organized fellowships during which early-career U.S. lawyers spend an academic year as Yale-China Law Fellows at one of China’s major law schools. For the 2009-10 academic year, there is an opportunity for a Fellow to serve as a member of the junior faculty and as a visiting scholar at the Hunan University Law School in Changsha, Hunan, teaching courses in American law and to helping to develop the clinical legal education program.
Yale-China will facilitate and administer the Fellowship, providing mentorship, logistical, and administrative support, including a local, RMB salary (through the Chinese University Partner), housing, and health and emergency evacuation insurance. Mentorship will be provided by an in-country, professional program officer and through the Yale-China Law Fellows network, which includes former Fellows and law faculty in both China and the United States.
This Fellowship is enriched by, but does not require, fluency in spoken or written Mandarin.
We expect that this experience will satisfy the requirements of deferred start programs at law firms which require a public service or public interest component.
